Wetherspoon pub to use 50% less energy

A JD Wetherspoon pub in Melton will use 50% less energy than a similar-sized Wetherspoon establishment following post-fire refurb.

A 'flagship' JD Wetherspoon pub in Melton will use 50% less energy than a similar-sized Wetherspoon establishment following a £1.8m post-fire refurbishment.

Electricity at super pub The Kettleby Cross will be generated from a 'quietrevolution qr5' wind turbine combined with a range of other energy saving methods.

The fire in 2010 was said to be caused by an electrical fault near a fireplace and John Hutson, J D Wetherspoon chief executive, said: "We want to take a lead and think this will make us more attractive to customers."

Maeve Hurley, CEO of quietrevolution, said: "JD Wetherspoon is right to take the lead in changing the way pubs treat their energy consumption. Our engineers have worked hard to create a turbine that will be industry leading and recognised as a viable investment option around the world."
