Punch has launched a national pub quiz competition for its tenants to help drive sales during quiet trading times.

More than 400 have already registered for the free weekly brainteasers and they receive 50-question quizzes, a full briefing pack, free posters and money-off drinks tokens to help them promote the events at their pub.

After an eight-week cycle, the winning teams with the best scores will go through to represent their pub at regional finals taking place in July and August.

The overall national winner will receive £2,000, a trophy and a special prize that includes a

celebrity quiz team play-ing on a night of the winners' choice.

Runners-up also receive a range of cash prizes.

Stephen Martin, marketing manager at Punch, said: "A quiz is a really simple way for pubs to boost trade at what are traditionally quieter times.

"We're able to put together a quiz package for our Punch partners that's free and can help them bring in new trade."

The regional finals will be hosted by pub-quiz experts Redtooth, utilising a full PA system and TVs in larger Punch outlets.
