CAMRA raffle to boost pub saving funds
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has launched its National Raffle 2011 in a bid to raise funds to help save pubs.
Tickets are being sold for £2 each with the top prize being £3,000 with £1,000 and £500 for the second and third places. There are also 20 beer-related prizes for runners-up.
Last year's raffle raised £16,000. All funds raised will help CAMRA run initiatives like its Local Pubs Week, where local branches encourage people to visit the pub during a particular week of their choice and to lobby central Government.
The raffle comes at a time when 1,300 pubs closed in 2010, causing the loss of more than 13,000 jobs, according to CAMRA.
"In the face of chronic under investment, problems with UK planning laws, eye watering beer taxation levels, and continued issues with the way large pub companies are operated, we currently experience uncertain times in the pub industry," said
Colin Valentine, CAMRA national chairman.
"With the launch of this Raffle, CAMRA is seeking to raise much needed campaigning funds in order to help continue to safeguard the future of community pubs and champion them as invaluable local amenities."
The deadline for entering the National Raffle is Monday 19 September, with the draw taking place a week after on 26 September.
