Wetherspoon's green pub to re-open
JD Wetherspoon's (JDW's) flagship green pub, the Kettleby Cross in Melton Mowbray, is set to re-open on 24 May after closing following a fire last October.
The pub has undergone a £1.8m refit following the fire, which Leicestershire Fire Service said was caused by an electrical fault near the fireplace.
Firefighters had to pump water from the nearby River Eye to put out the flames. Damage to the building was described as "extensive".
The Kettleby Cross opened in September 2007. The aim was to use 50% less energy than a similar-sized JDW pub. Energy is generated from a wind turbine and also saved through a variety of modern techniques.
JDW chief executive John Hutson said at the time: "We want to take a lead and think this will make us more attractive to customers."
