Despite the valiant efforts of licensees across the country Pub Landlord Al Murray fell short of winning the Walkers Clash of the Comics challenge.

Murray was competing against fellow funnymen Stephen Fry, Jimmy Carr and Frank Skinner in a bid to raise money by selling limited edition crisps for Comic Relief.

The Publican and licensees across the country put their support behind Murray but national treasure Stephen Fry and his Fry Up flavours came in ahead with a 27 per cent market share.

But it was a close fought content with Steak and Al pie picking up 25 per cent of sales and Frank Roast Dinner and Jimmy Con Carrne 24 per cent each.

Overall the promotion has raised an impressive £1m for the cause. However the three losers now face the prospect of being waxed by Denise Van Outen as part of tonight's Red Nose Day broadcast.

"It's very encouraging to have received so much support for our Red Nose Day initiative from stores and pubs across the country," said Miranda Sambles, Walkers marketing director

"Retailers have really embraced the campaign and engaged consumers from their position at the heart of the community. It was a closely fought battle and all our comedians have entered into the competition with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm."
