Award-winning licensees Lucy and Mark Barron-Reid, who run the Bull at Benenden, Kent, opened their second pub at the weekend.

The newly re-named Black Pig at Hawkhurst, Kent, is a freehold acquired from Admiral Taverns off an asking price of £300,000.

Mark Barron-Reid said: "It is important that we continue to support local breweries and The Black Pig will serve ales brewed as locally as Rolvenden, wines from award winning local vineyards and new and exciting lagers from Whitstable and Tenterden, to name just a few."

The Black Pig name has upset one local who complained, anonymously, that it was racist.

Mark Barron-Reid said: "If you're looking for something bad you can usually find something. It's all a bit strange because we're not racist and neither is the name. We've employed people from many different countries and of many different colours."
