Shops in parts of Dundee have started tagging bottles of alcohol as part of a police plan to cut underage drinking levels. Supermarkets and off licences have been asked to mark bottles with an invisible code. If young drinkers are found with a tagged item, police say they can work out when and where it was purchased. They claim the idea is to target adults who agree to buy cheap alcohol for under-18s. - BBC

The government is sitting on a wine cellar worth tens of thousands of pounds, an MP has revealed. Labour former minister Tom Watson (West Bromwich East) has asked the Government to reveal its wine list for more than 13 months but his requests have been continually rebuffed. On Tuesday, he was finally handed the list which includes a Chateau Petrus 1978 worth more than £2,500. Next to a bottle of Chateau Latour 1955, worth about £1,000. A bottle of Chateau Palmer 1975, prices of which start at a frugal £120. Bottles of champagne to make rap-stars blush are also on the list - Press Association

Pubs and restaurants in central London could be open for longer hours during the Olympics. Westminster council said today it would consider longer licences and announced public transport operating hours will also be extended. Westminster set out its plans to cover 100 days in the summer of 2012 when it will play host to the largest series of planned events in its history. These include the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the World Pride Parade which take place before the Olympics and Notting Hill Carnival between the Olympics and Paralympics.
