The Orchid Group's first Halo Awards took place last week at the Pacific Oriental in London where eight awards were presented.

More than 500 nominations were made by co-workers across the eight categories that included excellent customer service, quality of food and drink and the ability to run a successful pub.

The three finalists in each category received a three-course meal at the Orchid Group restaurant and a night in a hotel.

Winners recevied glass trophies, Champagne and a goodie bag.

The Hero of Hospitality award went to Wendy Lofkin of the Peacock in Nantwich, Cheshire, Crispin Mardles of Treble Bob in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, won Chef of the Year and Rob Dunn of the Barnbow in Leeds, West Yorkshire won Manager of the Year.

"We were truly overwhelmed by the number of nominations and it was a real pleasure to read about all the amazing things our employees do each and every day, without being prompted," said operations director Paul Cutsforth.

"We found out about the ways managers and staff go above and beyond their duties to keep our business successful and ensure guests leave with a smile on their face, and were impressed by the many ideas our employees have for taking the company forward.

"It was incredibly difficult to select the finalists and overall winners and we hope the Halo Awards will continue to be a success and give us the opportunity to thank all our team members for their hard work."
