Scottish brewer Tennent's has pledged to help its customers through the extreme weather conditions by extending credit terms for many direct free trade customers.

From this week there will be an extended credit period of at least four weeks. The move is designed to help licensees cope with cash flow problems as the severe snow has made a devastating impact on trade.

Mike Lees, managing director of Tennent's Lager, which is owned by C&C Group, said: "Our market-leading position enables us to help the majority of our direct free trade customers in this way. It is our way of showing our appreciation and support for the free pub trade in Scotland in return for the ongoing support they give to Tennent's."

Meanwhile draymen from Midlands' brewer Marston's have been doing their bit by adding grit to their deliveries.

Distribution operations manager for the West Des McCauley, said: "Our pubs up and down the country rely on us for everything, so not only are we delivering everything from beer and wine to food and napkins, we're also delivering grit to make sure the conditions in and out of the pub are safe for staff and customers."
