Pubs that took part in a Molson Coors beer quality programme saw beer sales rise 7%, according to the brewer.

The Pint Right scheme, which began in March 2010, offers hands on "cellar to glass" training, including perfect serve training for bar staff.

Visits to participating pubs and clubs by Cask Marque found that:

- 68% said Pint Right had a positive impact on their business.

- 82% said it improved staff knowledge

- 97% would recommend it to other accounts

- 91% rated the programme as very good.

Simon Cox, director of sales for the independent on trade at Molson Coors (UK), said: "Our customers have been telling us that they want activity and support that helps drive more customers through the doors, more often, buying more and bar staff training to help increase efficiency and profits.

"Our aim with the Pint Right Programme was to help our customers increase rate of sale in outlet with a focus on quality and getting it Pint Right in outlet.

"I'm delighted that we achieved that and look forward to working with more customers to add real value to their businesses in 2010."

Cask Marque director Paul Nunny said: "This programme was a large commitment by Molson Coors UK in terms of resources and support and we are very pleased that results prove that beer quality has a significant effect on beer sales and therefore retailing profitability.

"We hope other breweries and pub companies will follow their leadership."

Meanwhile, licensees can still enter the brewer's competition to win a business makeover worth £33,333.

The competition, whereby pubs buying any case from the Red Bull or Britvic range are entered into a draw to win a share of the £100,000 prize, closes on 7 January.
