SA Brain has opened a stand alone Costa coffee outlet in one of its Cardiff pubs.

It's part of a franchise agreement between the Welsh brewer and the international coffee chain.

Both pub and coffee shop are housed within the same building, but operate as two separate outlets. The Costa store has a dedicated entrance, employs fully trained baristas and serves Costa's full range of coffees and hot and cold food.

Brains retail director Philip Lay said: "We've been serving Costa coffee across our managed estate for the last couple of years, but this is the first time we've opened a branded store.

"Early sales have been extremely encouraging and we're delighted with how the business is performing. It's another example of how we're adapting to meet ever changing customer needs."

He added: "When I started out in the pub trade I could never have predicted we'd be selling lattes and flat whites. Coffee sales within our pub estate have been growing year on year, making it an important part of our business."
