The Foresters Arms has been named Pub of the Year at family brewer Hall and Woodhouse's Tenanted Awards.

Karl and Linda Turrill, who were awarded £1,000, have been Business Partners at The Foresters Arms in Kirdford, West Sussex, since January 2008.

The annual awards, which are open to the brewers' tenanted estate of pubs, had eight categories, including a new one this year — Best Charity Pub of the Year.

Karl said: "We were overjoyed to win this esteemed award. After the hard work and dedication shown by the whole team this year, it is extremely moving to have our commitment recognised by Hall and Woodhouse.

"It will be a great boost for the team as we move into the festive season and the new year."

Matt Kearsey, tenanted director at Hall and Woodhouse added: "We believe it is of vital importance to support and recognise the outstanding achievements and hard work undertaken by our business partners.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and nominees at this year's event and wish them every success for the future."

• Best Food Pub of the Year: James Callery, The Halfway Inn, Newbury, Berkshire

• Best Garden Pub of the Year: Martin and Martine Hastings, The Horns Inn, Wimborne, Dorset

• Best Community Pub of the Year: Chris Hill, The Red Lion, Gillingham

• Beer Quality Pub of the Year: Adrian and Carol Beer, The Gatwick, Horley, Surrey

• Business Innovation Pub of the Year: Owen Davies and Patrick and Andrea Cooke, The Martyrs Inn Tolpuddle, Dorset

• Best Newcomers: Steve, Sue, Lee and Hannah Bardsley, The Barley Mow Inn, Colehill, Dorset
