When it comes to buying a round of beers the Brits are the most generous of all Europeans, according to new research.

In its 'Whose Round' report brewer SABMiller has revealed that 82 per cent of Brits prefer buying beer in rounds - way above the second placed nation, France, with 62 per cent.

And despite being among Europe's biggest beer lovers the Germans clearly don't like to share with just 27 per cent preferring to buy drinks in rounds.

The research reveals a number of trends across Europe and is compiled from interviews with 6,000 people in 12 different countries.

It also shows that British bosses are among the most generous in Europe when it comes to taking the team out, whereas the French are the most unlikely to have an after-work beer with colleagues.

And stats collated in the report shows that while Britain has a reputation for a heady drinking culture it lags way behind Europe's biggest beer drinkers, the Czech Republic, as well as Poland, Germany and Romania.

In fact UK consumption is down from 118 litres per capita in 2007 to 111 last year. The Czechs drink a whopping 198 litres every year.

Perhaps unsurprisingly Prague comes out on top as the top European destination for beer but Brits tend to prefer London - the fifth most popular city overall.

Nigel Fairbrass from SABMiller said: "It is no great surprise that Prague is the most sought-after city for Europeans to enjoy a pint; the Czech Republic produces some of the world's finest beers and is home of the original Pilsner, Pilsner Urquell.

"Equally it's interesting to note that Brits don't think London can be beaten when it comes to beer."

The survey also revealed that Brits most popular drinking partners would be Cheryl Cole and Stephen Fry.

Barack Obama and Angelina Jolie were the most popular across Europe.
