One in three people expect pubs to be family friendly, according to the latest results in a survey by Greene King.

As part of its Proper Pubs campaign the Suffolk brewer and pubco is asking customers what they want from their pub.

And of the 2,000 people quizzed in a YouGov poll around 30 per cent said they want a pub to welcome their children.

The survey found that 29 per cent of people put "family friendly" in their top three essential elements of a "proper pub", behind only a good choice of food and drink (66 per cent), friendly landlord (57 per cent), and the pub being at the centre of the community (30 per cent).

A spokesman for Greene King said that pubs had become much more family friendly over the years as people make eating out in pubs a family experience.

"We have introduced more children's menus in recent years, and it's an important growth area for pubs," he added.

"The secret is in providing appropriate areas and facilities for families so that everyone enjoys the experience of going to a pub."
