Gastropub the Milestone in Sheffield, which appeared in the semi-final of Channel 4 show Ramsay's Best Restaurant this week, is to open a wine bar and shop.

The business will open early next year in a leasehold building around the corner from the Milestone in Sheffield's Kelham Island.

Freehold the Milestone, which is owned by Matt Bigland and Marc Sheldon won the Best British Restaurant heat of the Gordon Ramsay fronted show in October.

The 100-cover pub, which is owned by Marc Sheldon and Matt Bigland, was picked for the show after beating 12,000 other nominated restaurants.

The wine bar will feature an oyster bar, a range of around 250 wines available to drink on site or to take-away and a food offer of deli-style sharing boards. Many of the wines offered will be sourced direct from vineyard owners.

The aim is to have a 50:50 wet:dry split at the riverside site, which will offer around 60 covers outside and 50 inside. At the Milestone 10 wines are offered by the half bottle, with every dish on the menu matched to a half bottle of wine.

A cookbook called First, Catch Your Pig is also being launched at the end of November.

Sheldon adds: "The book shares our gastronomic knowledge, the chefs' recipes and some stunning imagery of our creations, farms and our herd of pigs.

"Business has been booming since appearing on Ramsay's show and we've had lots of new faces through the door. It is very flattering to have people come and visit from all over the UK."
