MA gastropub finalists named

The finalists in the Morning Advertiser's "Old Speckled Hen" Top 50 Gastropubs 2010 special awards have been announced.

The finalists in the Morning Advertiser's "Old Speckled Hen" Top 50 Gastropubs 2010 special awards have been announced.

The winners will be revealed at an awards lunch at the Olde Bell, Hurley, Berkshire, on Monday, 15 November.

The UK's top gastropub, as voted for by an industry poll of more than 700 gastropub operators, food writers, pub guide editors, pubco chiefs and key industry suppliers, will also be announced along with rankings of the Top 50 Gastropubs 2010.

The awards will be presented by Nigel Barden, food and drink presenter on BBC Radio 2's Simon Mayo show.

Finalists in the Business Innovation Award are Punch lease the Taverners, Godshill, Isle of Wight; freehold the Milestone, Sheffield; the Great Pub Company's Compasses at Pattiswick, Essex; and Moleface Pub Company's Lord Nelson in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire.

Newcomer of the Year award finalists are freehold the Cary Arms, Babbacombe, Devon; freehold the Old Inn, Holton, Somerset; Flying Kiwi Inns' Kings Head, Letheringsett, Norfolk; and Thorpeness & Aldeburgh Hotels' Crown in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

Gastropub Chef of the Year finalists, who are selected from chefs from the 2010 Top 50 Gastropubs, are: James MacKenzie, chef/owner of freehold the Pipe & Glass, Beverley, East Yorkshire; Emily Watkins, chef/owner of freehold the Kingham Plough, Kingham, Oxfordshire; and Marcus Bennett of the Bay Horse, Hurworth, Darlington.

All winners will be featured in the MA's Top 50 Gastropubs special edition on 17 November.
