The Premier League faces a potential 'Bosman' ruling this week when the European Court of Justice hears a Portsmouth licensee's claim that being blocked from showing football in her pub on a foreign satellite channel is a restriction of trade. Karen Murphy's fight with the Premier League has gone all the way to Europe's highest court and if judges find in her favour it could revolutionise the way football is broadcast in UK pubs. Murphy laims by restricting her choice of satellite TV providers to a single broadcaster - BSkyB - the Premier League contravenes European Union principles of free movement of goods and services between member states of the EU. Furthermore, such practice also prevents free and open competition in the UK broadcast market. If Ms Murphy wins, the future value of the Premier League's broadcasting rights could be undermined. - BBC

Cash-strapped Britons are losing their taste for once fashionable smoothies. The crushed fruit drinks have been hit hard by the credit crunch, with sales down 45 per cent in just three years. Shoppers spent a record £210m on take-home smoothies in 2007. But now sales have dropped to £115m a year. Supermarkets have cut the average price of a smoothie from £3.08 to £2.78 in a bid to halt sliding sales. - Sunday Mirror
