'Brakes may be applied to drink drive measures'

Plans to slash the drink-drive limit are set to be ditched, it emerged last night. The B-test proposals would have made it illegal to drive after downing just one pint. But Transport Secretary Philip Hammond fears hardened drink drivers would not be put off. A source said: "He is sceptical about these plans - it's more likely than not he'll say no." New Zealand's government has proposed several changes to alcohol laws in a bid to curb youth drinking. Only those over 20 - up from 18 - will be allowed to buy alcohol from shops.
