Pubs across the country are being encouraged to team-up with darts legend Phil 'The Power' Taylor to set a new world record.

Charity for the deaf Sign Health wants to set a record for the most people playing darts simultaneously and needs 1,000 pubs to get involved.

And as well as being part of the 'Deafinitely Darts' record attempt licensees can also raise thousands of pounds for charity and will be in line to win prizes themselves.

The bid, which is due to take place between 7pm to 11pm on October 21, is being backed by top darts players from the Professional Darts Corporation including 15 times World Champion Phil Taylor.

Pubs that raise the most money could win a masterclass from a darts star such as Taylor and the top fundraising venue will also scoop a holiday to the Bahamas.

Peter Darby, licensee of the Horse and Jockey in Tylers Green, Buckinghamshire, has already signed up.

He said: "We have ladies and gents teams and we are fully behind the initiative. It is a great thing to be involved in and a good way of raising some money."

Georgia Romeril, community fundraiser at Sign Health, said the charity hopes the attempt will raise £770,000.

"It's an unusual event and we hope to set a world record doing it," she said. "We hope as many pubs as possible will get involved."

And Phil Taylor said he was keen to visit participating venues.

"I urge all publicans and club owners to join this fantastic world record attempt and ask every darts player to put a team together in aid of this worthy cause," he said.

Pub teams must consist of eight players and there is no limit on the number of teams that can be entered. To register or to find out more visit www.deafinitelydarts.org.uk or call 01494 687621.
