BBPA's leased benchmarking survey plan

The BBPA is in talks about putting together its own benchmarking survey on the costs of running leased and tenanted pubs.

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) is in talks about putting together its own benchmarking survey on the costs of running leased and tenanted pubs.

The plans are at an early stages, but the aim is to survey BBPA member pub companies and others in the industry.

BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: "It's not just our members; it's a tenanted and leased survey full stop.

"We are trying to do benchmarking among our members so we can help people put together shadow profit-and-loss accounts [a requirement under the BBPA's framework code of practice for tenants]."

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) already carries out a survey of pub operating costs among members.

Last November it opened its survey up to the whole trade for the first time.

Correction: The BBPA would like to clarify that it has not yet discussed the benchmarking survey with the ALMR or IPC.
