First brew from new Meantime Brewery
London brewer Meantime has brewed its first beer at its new £1.9m premises today.
Around 20,000 pints of Meantime's 4.4% draught lager are the first to come out of the new brewery in Blackwall Lane, just over a mile from its old site.
A further 29 tanks are due to travel from the old site to the new one on 9 August, after which the bottling and kegging lines will be installed.
"Today's brew represents the culmination of two years planning work, right from the necessary fundraising through the planning procedures, design, civil engineering, fabrication and final commissioning," said Meantime founder and brewmaster Alastair Hook.
"The next phase of investment in the site is the visitors' centre and training suite, where Londoners and tourists alike will be able to come and learn about the history of brewing in London, how London beers shaped the world and how we at Meantime intend to make great beer well into the twenty-first century."
