Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans has sold one of his pubs to Celtic Manor Resort.

The Newbridge Inn, at Tredunnock, near Usk, is just six miles from the five star hotel and golf resort.

It was the first acquisition made by the company outside its 1,400-acre estate near Newport in South Wales.

The Newbridge on Usk, is a 200-year-old inn and offers six stylish en-suite bedrooms.

The Newbridge Inn was the third pub taken on by Evans Pubs, who also own the Lickfold Inn, at Lickfold, near Petworth, West Sussex and the Mulberry Inn, at Chiddingfold, Surrey.

The Welsh pub was bought in 2007 for approximately £1m with chef Leighton Davy in charge of the site.

Celtic Manor Resort chief executive Dylan Matthews said: "Over the years the Newbridge on Usk has earned a deserved reputation for the quality of its food and drink and we look forward to building on that success.

"The Newbridge is in a wonderful position right beside the river and I am sure it will prove very popular with guests staying at The Celtic Manor Resort. It also offers us a fantastic alternative venue to host corporate events and weddings."

Wholesome gastro-pub fare, made from locally sourced produce, will be served in the 80-cover restaurant. There is also a mezzanine and terraced gardens for al fresco dining alongside the river.
