A couple of licensees are being given the chance to get to grips with The Publican after winning the title of Britain's Proudest Pub.

During Proud of Pubs Week we teamed up with Marston's Pedigree to offer licensees the chance to win a stack of prizes - including guest editing the magazine.

And after impressing judges with their entry Lee and Keris De Villiers of Young's pub the Nightingale pub in London's Balham will get to take the helm.

During the week the pub welcomed MP Jane Ellison in for a chat, served customers Proud of Pubs Summer Ale, organised a tour of the nearby Sambrook Brewery and raised money for charity WaterAid by charging customers to attempt to break the world record for eating Jaffa Cakes in a minute (the best effort was eight).

Keris said: "We are so delighted to win this because it is exactly what we are - proud of our pub. It's a really great reward for the efforts of all the staff."

As well as guest editing the magazine the couple also scooped the opportunity to name a 2011 Marston's guest ale and a plaque commemorating their win.
