Great Heck Brewing Co nets first pub

West Yorkshire based micro brewer Great Heck Brewing has bought its first pub — a freehold from Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company.

Great Heck Brewing, founded by Denzil Vallance and Jason Hall, acquired O'Donoghue's in Wakefield, West Yorkshire for an undisclosed sum off an asking price of £175,000.

The company intends to change the pub's name back to its original of The Bull, and is also planning a refurbishment.

"O'Donoghue's attracted a good level of interest with a number of bids submitted," said Nicholas Thomas, from Christie + Co's Leeds Office, which handled the sale.

"Almost all the interest received was for continued public house use with buyers recognising that the present market offers a great opportunity to buy freehold pubs at attractive prices.

"The purchase of O'Donoghue's will give the Great Heck Brewing Company the perfect opportunity to showcase its range beers to a wider audience."
