Organisers of the national week-long celebration of pubs have unveiled suggested activities that pubs can stage each day — and revealed growing support for the event.
British Pub Week, from 30 October to 6 November, aims to encourage more people to visit pubs during the Halloween/Bonfire Night period.
The suggested week of activity is:
• Sat 30 Oct: Halloween/music night
• Sun 31 Oct: Halloween/Family day and Sunday roast
• Mon 1 Nov: Community day
• Tue 2 Nov: Pub games night
• Wed 3 Nov: Food-based event
• Thu 4 Nov: Quiz night
• Fri 5 Nov: Guy Fawkes/charity night/Real Ale festival
• Sat 6 Nov: Grand finale/Real Ale Festival
The list of support for British Pub week now includes: JW Lees, Enterprise Inns, the Independent Pub Confederation, the British Beer & Pub Association, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers, Fair Pint, Freedom to Choose and Unite the Union.
Darts legend Eric Bristow, plus Bob James and John Lowe who recorded a song in aid of pubs, have also lent their support. So have MPs Peter Luff, Gerry Sutcliffe, John Healey and Paul Goggins.
Morning Advertiser editor The PMA Team is on the steering group, alongside representatives of Justice for Licensees, the All-Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, Marstons, the BII, Punch Taverns and Unite.
Tenant campaigner Inez Ward, chair of British Pub Week, said: "it is highly encouraging that so many different ares of this trade have come together to benefit the trade.
"I believe that we are all fully committed and focused on delivering a week that celebrates all that is great about the foundations of this industry — the British pub — which is not just somewhere that sells alcohol.
"There is a new dawn emerging in this trade; it will be good and should be embraced with open arms, a dawn where we unite and concentrate on pubs and the consumers."
