Artificial fats - declared toxic by the World Health Organisation - should be banned from food, the NHS watchdog has said. New guidance issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) also called for the food industry to further reduce the salt and saturated fats in the food it produces. It suggested 40,000 people in the UK die prematurely every year from cardiovascular disease. According to the experts, removing chemically-altered vegetable oils - trans-fats - could save more than 20,000 lives. Young Fraserburgh beer company BrewDog is on course to top £4.5 million of sales this year after reporting a 250% increase in first quarter revenues.
