Seven pub groups have signed up to take part in this year's British Food Fortnight.

The national celebration of British produce will run from 18 September to 3 October. Enterprise Inns, Everards, Marston's Pub Company, Orchid Pub Group, Punch Taverns, Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company and Young's are among those taking part.

Tara Buffini, director of food development for Young's pubs said: "British Food Fortnight has been a great experience for Young's pubs. Customers were very interested and impressed that we were promoting British food. The British Food Fortnight menu stayed on as an option for all pubs to use as specials, as requested by the pub managers."

Campaign organisers are recommending pubs come up with chef's specials that highlight local produce. Examples include a steak & ale-of-the-day pie that draws attention to the range of ales on offer in the bar or a dish that uses a local cheese to stimulate interest in the pubs' cheese board.
