So that World Cup fever doesn't leave spirits out in the cold, Pernod Ricard has launched a series of free football drinks menus that pubs can customise.
Eight designs are available and pubs can add their own bar name, logo and price as well as choose their own football-themed name for each drink.
Brand information can be featured on the back of the 'Share the Spirit of Football' menus. But drinks outside of the Pernod Ricard portfolio can also be included.
Pernod Ricard UK customer development director Dan Reuby said: "While beer is clearly popular during the World Cup, there are also opportunities for spirits.
"Cocktails and long mixed drinks meet consumer demand for additional choice, while also driving healthy profit margins for publicans."
Pernod Ricard points to research that shows that while consumers go to pubs to watch the matches, this isn't the only reason.
According to Alcovision data, 30 per cent visit as a social get-together and 24 per cent go to meet friends. Only 19 per cent go to the pub solely to watch the football.
Reuby adds: "These occasions lend themselves perfectly to spirits, so on-trade retailers need a spirits solution that allows them to leverage this big sales opportunity. Our simple-serve menus in particular are a quick, inexpensive and easy way to ensure they're getting the right visibility for their spirits offer during the World Cup."
The bespoke menus can be ordered through Pernod Ricard UK sales reps. Those pubs that don't have a dedicated rep should go through their drinks distributor.
Licensees who purchase a bottle of Absolut vodka, Havana Club rum or Malibu in June will be entitled to a free 'Share the Spirit of Football' kit. Each kit comprises two Malibu pitchers and 20 menus.
