Temporary Event Notice dilemma
Q - I have been granted a Temporary Event Notice. The notice has been sent to me, but what do I do with it?
A - You are required to keep a copy of the Temporary Event Notice prominently displayed on the premises for the duration of the event. You are also required to show the notice to a police officer or authorised officer of the local authority upon request.
Can a 16-year-old buy beer in a pub?
Q - I am 16 years old and recently went into a pub. I ordered bar snacks and a beer and was told that I was not allowed to have a beer as I was under-age. I was under the impression that I was able to have beer or wine when ordering food. Please advise me.
A - Sixteen or 17-year-olds are allowed to drink beer, wine or cider with a table meal, provided that an adult purchases the alcohol. This adult must also accompany the young person at the table meal. Unfortunately, bar snacks are not classed as a table meal.
Does my party for family and friends need to be licensed?
Q - I am a landlord of a local pub and want to hold a party for friends and family in the function room. There will be a free bar and free party food will be available. There will also be music and dancing until late. Does this event need to be licensed?
A- No. Because your party is a private party organised for your friends and family and you are giving alcohol away rather than selling it, you do not need to be licensed.
