Spurs have paid £225,000 over the asking price to net a pub next to their home ground at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur football club paid £850,000 for Bar Latina, in a deal handled by agents AG&G.

James Grimes, director at the firm, said: "There was a lot if interest in the building and its selling price reflects its true value."

The club has bought the building as part of its strategy to invest in property surrounding the stadium.

A well-known retailer is lined up to lease the 4,000sq ft trading floor. The property also has a manager's flat with four bedrooms and two more floors of accommodation on long leases.

Bar Latina was perhaps best known in the 1980s, when glamour model and pop singer Samantha Fox owned it as Sam's Bar. "It's had a number of owners since then, but now its future is secure," said Grimes.
