Meantime Brewing Company has opened a new restaurant, bar and brewery in Greenwich, London.
The Old Brewery has opened in the grounds of the Royal Naval College, which is part of the World Heritage site of Maritime Greenwich, near the Cutty Sark and connects to Discover Greenwich, the new Greenwich cultural venue.
By day, whilst Discover Greenwich is open, the main hall will be run as a café with freshly made deli sandwiches, simple British bistro style dishes, house baked cakes and pastries as well as Meantime's selection of beers on offer.
By night, the room which has copper-clad beer vessels and suspended bottles will be transformed into a restaurant, where diners can enjoy modern British food with the occasional nod to Britain's rich naval history.
Beer will be integral to many dishes and woven through the menu in dishes such as beer cured salmon; chocolate beer sorbet and shucked oysters marinated in Meantime's Hospital Porter.
The site also has a six barrel brewery where the company's managing director and head brewer Alastair Hook will experiment with developing quality limited edition beers, including wild beers made using non coventional yeasts. Hook will be delving into the history books to develop new beers from long forgotten recipes, such as old Tudor style ales.
Hook has developed a signature beer for the venue called Hospital Porter. Brewed to a 1750's recipe and matured for a minimum of a year the beer is, an oak aged London Porter, with an 8% ABV.
The Old Brewery also has the history of beer and London brewing on display. A brewing history timeline wraps around the main dining room.
Adjoining the main hall restaurant is an annexe bar and courtyard featuring the beer bottle and glass collections of the esteemed Beer Hunter, the late Michael Jackson.
The bar will serve hand-drawn Meantime beers and an all day bar menu. Customers will also be able to enjoy tutored beer tastings.
Brewery tours including beer sampling and a bar or restaurant meal are also being run.
The Meantime Brewing Company also owns The Greenwich Union pub. A new brewery site currently under construction in Greenwich will triple the company's brewing capacity.
