Walkers launches world cup for crisps
Will it be English roast beef and Yorkshire pudding or will German bratwurst sausage claim the title on penalties?
For while the footballing elite battle for glory in the World Cup this summer Walkers will be looking for a global favourite crisp flavour.
Following the success of its 'do us a flavour' promotion last year the snacks giant is now asking customers to choose another favourite flavour from a weird and wonderful selection.
In total 15 new flavours - all representing different countries - have been produced and of those eight will be available in pubs up until the World Cup Final on July 11.
The eight flavours available as single serve options are:
• English Roast beef & Yorkshire pudding
• Argentinean flame grilled steak
• Japanese teriyaki chicken
• French garlic baguette
• Dutch edam cheese
• American cheeseburger
• Brazilian salsa
• German bratwurst sausage
Walkers hope fans will back their favourite by joining 'flavour fan clubs' at the Walkers website.
The flavours with the most fans will become the Walkers Flavour Cup Champion and superfans from each of the flavours will win £10,000.
The new flavours were launched at a celeb filled party hosted by Walkers poster boy Gary Lineker in London last week.
The campaign will also be backed by extensive TV and online marketing.
Jon Kyle, Walkers impulse sales director, said: "By stocking up on the range of internationally inspired flavour and using the eye-catching point of sale material, publicans can really make the Flavour Cup promotion come alive.
"By leveraging the multimillion pound marketing investment they will be able to generate significant incremental sales."
Last year the public voted 'builder's breakfast' as the winner of the 'do us a flavour promotion' with 17 per cent of the votes coming from texts from pubs.
