The outgoing chairman of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) has called for "greater activity" in the regions to strengthen the group.
Peter Amor is to step down after three years at the group's AGM this week.
He said there are "numerous" reasons for calling it a day and added he was keen to see the greater action from local groups.
Writing in the SIBA Journal, he said: "I maintain that if SIBA is to be really strong and democratic then nationally it needs regular and proactive regional participation.
"I don't doubt the dedication of the regional trustees but if SIBA is to be a vibrant body we need the input of all its members at local level.
"So my plea is for all areas to face up to the challenge presented by the South West, who have been showing the rest of us the way for too long - and make the SIBA name strong in your region."
The SIBA Conference takes place on Thursday and Friday at the Holiday Inn in Bridgefoot, Stratford-upon-Avon.
Speakers include Simon Townsend, chief operating officer of Enterprise Inns, Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers' chief executive Nick Bish and Marston's boss Ralph Findlay.
