Food and drink wholesaler Booker is planning a "Meet the Butcher" week from 3 to 10 March where licensees can learn about quality fresh meat.

There will be free stock, tastings and cookery demonstrations across the Booker branches, showcasing the choice of meat available at the company.

It offers a personal service whereby customers can choose their meat and cut and Booker will prepare it to requirement.

Booker meat is fully traceable, around 30% cheaper than retail butchers and comes with a full money-back taste and quality guarantee.

The wholesaler trained more than 40 colleagues to start a career in butchery last year.

"The local butchery service is an important part of Booker's catering offering and the continued training scheme will enhance and improve Booker's commitment to providing a personal service as well as allowing an improved butchery counter at evenings and weekends," said sales director of catering Ron Hickey.
