Darts champ wins £15k for charity

Pennies Bar in Falkirk is the recipient of £1,000-worth of darts equipment, following victory in the John Smith's People's Darts Championship.

Pennies Bar in Falkirk is to be the lucky recipient of £1,000-worth of new darts equipment, following the victory of regular, Duncan "Big D" Hastings, in the John Smith's People's Darts Championship.

Hastings romped home with a 3-1 victory against in Mark Petchy from the Royal Oak in Basingstoke in the televised final last Sunday.

He wins £15,000 for the Strathcarron Hospice, his chosen charity, and gets John Smith's sponsorship to play three BDO events this year, as well as equipment for his local.

"This competition should be a must for all pub and club players," said Hastings.

"It's great for the game, great for the locals and great for pub trade. Winning the tournament means that I can give £1,000 back to the pub I qualified from.

"David Anderson, the licensee at Pennies Bar, will be over the moon with my performance and I'm sure he will be delighted with the money going back into the bar."
