Food-led pub and hotel group J&G Inns has bought its third site, the Lord Crewe Arms in Northumberland, for an undisclosed sum.

Acting on behalf of Lord Crewe's Charity, Christie + Co sold the lease of the Lord Crewe Arms, a hotel, pub and restaurant in Blanchland, Northumberland, to the firm.

Dating back to the 12th Century, the property has a 21 en-suite bedroom hotel, a 54-cover restaurant, a stone-vaulted bar and a large garden — formerly the Abbey cloisters.

J&G Inns currently operates the Brackenrigg Inn near Ullswater, in the Lake District, and Warkworth House Hotel near Alnwick Castle in Northumberland.

J&G Inns director Garry Smith said: "The property satisfies part of our long-term growth strategy and is full of potential that we aim to realise."

Mark Worley from Christie + Co's Newcastle Office said: "We are delighted to have been able to secure an established operator such as J&G Inns for this unique business.

"The pub and the restaurant parts are extremely popular with local residents as well as visitors, tourists and those passing through. Its idyllic and extremely picturesque location makes the hotel a delightful place in which to stay and use as base to explore this superb part of the country."
