A pub which had been shuttered for two years has re-opened this week with a brand-new look after being taken over by two award-winning licensees.
Ashley and Kelly McCarthy, who already run the multi-award-winning Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton, near York are confident that they can now make a similar success of the White Swan at Wighill.
A celebratory 'Village Night' for local residents took place at the freehouse last week, with the business opening fully for business on Friday October 23.
Ashley said: "We're delighted with all the hard work that has gone in to making the pub ready for opening.
"Having been shut for such a long time, there was lots that needed doing, but Kelly and I are now pleased with how everything is shaping up."
Kelly said they would be looking to bring a number of ideas that had contributed to the success of Ye Old Sun Inn over to the White Swan, which is seven miles away.
"Early evening dining will feature at the White Swan, as will a variety of dishes and types of cuisine, ranging from tapas to light snacks and the more traditional Yorkshire fayre," she added.
The re-opening of the White Swan is the latest in a string of successes for the couple. Last month they succeeded in buying the freehold of Ye Old Sun Inn from Enterprise Inns.
And on October 19 the pub was named Yorkshire Pub of the Year at the White Rose Awards for Tourism at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
