More than 5,000 people have entered a competition to win the freehold of a south Wales pub.

Owners Christie and Steve Goymer are giving away the Plash Inn in the village

of Llanfallteg, Carmarthenshire.

They had no luck selling the property, which was put on the market for £320,000.

To enter, punters pay £20 and must answer four multiple choice questions correctly. As a tie-breaker, they must state why they want to win the pub in no more than 25 words.

The winner was supposed to be announced in the summer but the deadline has been extended after technical problems meant online entries weren't being accepted for three weeks.

Christie said that although between 5,000 and 6,000 people have entered so far, more are needed in order for the couple to pay the remainder of the mortgage, plus tax and administration.

The pub features a bar and restaurant, fully-fitted catering kitchen, furnished holiday cottage, beer garden and car park for 12. Fixtures and fittings and any stock on date of change of ownership will be included in the deal.

The couple decided to move after their second son was born with Down's syndrome. "Running a pub is hard enough, but with a disabled child it's even harder," explained Christie.
