JD Wetherspoon has confirmed it is looking to open a second pub in Newquay, but denied it is interested in a Barracuda site.
The company already owns the Towan Blystra on Cliff Road and is looking for another site in the town centre.
A spokesman said: "Wetherspoons is still in the very early stages and have only recently been made aware that the site in question is actually available. I am not able to confirm, at this time, which site this is. It is very early — nothing is set in stone."
Barracuda has previously stated that it is closing its bar, on Cliff Road, for the season in the coming months.
Barracuda said this decision was due to falling visitor numbers — and that any future trading would be dependent on market conditions.
The company said it was now considering its options. The Wetherspoon spokesman added: "We are definitely not interested in the Barracuda bar. Any speculation linking us with this site is incorrect."
