"Drinkers will soon be popping into their local for two-thirds of a pint. The government is calling time on more than 300 years of history by relaxing rules on pub glass sizes. Under changes announced at the weekend, two-thirds of a pint will become an official measure in bars and restaurants. Currently only pints, halves and a third of a pint can be served legally. Industry leaders hope the two-thirds pint - known as a schooner in Australia - will revive flagging business." - Sunday Mirror
"Plans to set minimum prices for alcohol in Scotland will save hundreds of lives a year, a government-commissioned study will claim tomorrow (Monday). The booze crackdown will also reduce crime and days lost from work, helping the economy, according to the report. The study predicts the greatest impact will be among heavy drinkers of strong cider and supermarket-label spirits, rather than the modest middle-class wine drinkers cited by opponents of the scheme." - Herald
"A one-legged elderly man crashed his caravanette into the front of the Saddler's Arms in Lympstone, Exeter, not once but twice. Police said the diabetic pensioner crashed into the conservatory of the pub at a speed of more than 30mph at about 6pm on Thursday night. He then reversed onto the nearby A376 before picking up speed and crashing into the building again, causing further damage. Tables and chairs were sent flying as the man, said to be in his nineties from Oldham, Lancashire and looking 'confused', smashed into the shattered pub for the second time." - Daily Telegraph
