A Camden pub landlord has been fined over excessive noise

The owner of the Prince of Wales pub in Kentish Town has been prosecuted following complaints from residents about excessive noise.

Frank Carty was ordered by Highbury Corner Magistrates Court to pay a total of £548, after numerous complaints from residents about loud music and noise coming from the pub. He was fined £133, with £400 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Music coming from the pub was so loud that individual words of songs could be heard in neighbouring properties, disturbing the sleep of people living nearby.

Camden Council served Carty with a noise abatement notice, which prohibited him from allowing excessive noise from music or social activity to be heard outside the pub.

However the noise continued and the Council received further complaints. The Council decided Carty was in breach of the notice, so made the decision to prosecute.

Cllr Chris Knight, executive member for Environment at Camden Council, said: "I am pleased action has been taken against the owner of the premises, whose failure to comply with noise regulations caused suffering to local residents.

"I hope this sends out a warning to others that the Council will take action against anyone causing a nuisance by generating excessive noise."
