A former licensee is making a desperate plea to Publican readers to help him find his missing partner.

Ben Davey has not been seen since July 20 and friends and police are becoming increasingly concerned about his safety.

Up until April he was running the Crown Inn in Paull near Hull with his civil partner Nick Webster but the couple left the Punch Taverns pub when the company announced plans to sell it.

Nick said the stress of losing the business, which has since closed down, and the couple's subsequent break-up after four years together could have played a part in the 26-year-old's disappearance.

But he believes he may have attempted to find work at pubs across the UK and hopes Publican readers will recognise him and let police know he is safe.

"He has worked in the pub trade all of his life so he was exceptionally proud of his first pub but it was very difficult when it didn't work out," said Nick.

"Ben is an avid Publican reader so hopefully he will either pick the magazine up and let us know he is safe or someone will recognise his photograph."

Ben left his flat in July and has not been since. He left all of his personal belongings behind including documents, jewellery and his pet terrier. The windows were left open and the TV was on.

Nick added that with every passing day he is losing hope of seeing Ben again.

"It's so difficult because you go through every stage - has he had a breakdown, has he been abducted?

"Every day you wake up with hope but you lose it by the evening and start thinking the worst.

"I am just appealing for Ben to get in touch and to bring an end to this worry."

Ben was last seen wearing blue denim jeans and a distinctive Liverpool FC waist-length jacket with logos on the front and back.

He is 6ft 2ins tall, of thin build with short brown hair.

The Humberside Police Major Incident Team is investigating his disappearance.

Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Fielding said: "We are aware that nationally and locally people go missing for a variety of personal reasons so we understand if Benjamin Davey does not want to say were he is.

"However we are urging Benjamin to contact us in confidence and let us know if he is safe and well."
