AB InBev sells Tennent's to C&C

Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInbev) has sold Tennent's lager and its associated trading assets to C&C Group for £180m.

Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInbev) has sold Tennent's lager and its associated trading assets to Magners producer C&C Group for £180m.

The deal includes the Glasgow Wellpark Brewery in Scotland and the rights to Tennent's Ales and assets located in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland which currently belong to ABInbev.

The remainder of ABInbev's UK business located in England and Wales is not part of this transaction and will remain part of InBev UK Limited.

As part of the agreement, ABInbev will appoint C&C as distributor of certain brands in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. In return, C&C will grant ABInbev the right to use the Tennent's Super and Tennent's Pilsner brands in certain worldwide geographies.

"The sale of these assets will unlock value for our shareholders and ensure continued support for our global brands in the region through distribution agreements with key partners," said ABInbev chief executive Carlos Brito.

"C&C is a strong strategic buyer who is well-positioned to invest in and advance these assets within their respective geographies."

The deal should be completed by the end of the year.
