The group installed ten brewing vessels at its site in Hartlepool which will increase beer production from 375,000 barrels a year to about one million. The vessels, which represent an investment of £4m, will facilitate a supply agreement with Scottish and Newcastle, which includes the supply of lager and bitter until 2019.

Camerons introduced a managed estate arm last year, with eight pubs now managed by Camerons direct, including gastropub chain Aspire in Tynemouth, Thirsk, Redcar, Darlington and Sunderland, The Windmill in Hartlepool and Blue Lounge in Scarborough. Camerons spokesman Yousef Doubooni told North-East Business: "We have been able to exceed our previous brewing target and still have room for extra expansion at the Hartlepool site.

"We are now looking at opportunities at expanding both our tenanted and managed estate and are seeing a number of opportunities in the current market.

"However, we are not interested in bars that have been closed at the bottom end of the market just because they are cheap, as often these have been closed for a reason." Camerons tenanted estate has 67 sites."
