Titanic Stout has been crowned Champion Bottled Beer of Britain and will now be sold through 100 bars and cafes by Travelodge.

Titanic scooped the gong at the Campaign for Real Ale's Great British Beer Festival yesterday and as part of a sponsorship agreement with Travelodge, will now be rolled out nationwide.

Roger Protz, a world-renowned beer author, and long-time Camra member, described Titanic Stout as "jet black in colour but with the ruby edge that is typical of the style".

"It's the second time we've won in five years and in fact our stout has been in the top three for five out of six years running," said Titanic Brewery managing director Keith Bott.

"We are over the moon to be recognised as the best real ale in a bottle in Britain."

Paul Harvey, managing director of Travelodge and one of the competition judges, added: "Titanic Brewery has produced a wonderful beer in Titanic Stout and it fully deserved to win.  I am delighted that we will now be able to sell an award-winning beer in our hotels and I expect it to be a real hit with our customers."

Rudgate Ruby Mild claimed the overall Champion Beer of Britain Award (Rudgate Ruby Mild is Champion Beer).
