The FA and Sky Sports have just announced a three-season deal for broadcast coverage of the FA Community Shield.
The FA Community Shield is sponsored by McDonald's, and starts with Chelsea v Manchester United on Sunday August 9 at Wembley Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
As part of the deal, Sky Sports will also screen the Women's FA Cup Final for the next three seasons. This season's fixture is provisionally scheduled for May 3rd 2010, venue and kick-off time to be confirmed.
FA chief executive Ian Watmore said: "I am delighted that we have agreed a three-year deal with Sky for live and exclusive coverage of the FA Community Shield sponsored by McDonald's. Chelsea against Manchester United promises to be a great opener to the 2009/10 football calendar. I am also pleased to confirm that Sky will broadcast full live coverage of the FA Women's Cup Final sponsored by E.ON as part of our deal. The fixture is the showpiece of the women's domestic season."
Sky Sports' managing director Barney Francis said: "This is great news for Sky Sports. The FA Community Shield is the traditional curtain raiser to the new football season and this year's contest is sure to be a mouth-watering encounter. We're also delighted to add the Women's FA Cup Final to our month of finals next May."
