Greene King has launched a competition for a member of the public to create a new beer that will be sold at pubs across the country.

The winning beer will go on sale in pubs from 20 October and the successful 'brewer' will see their name - plus the name they've given for the brand - on pump clips in bars throughout the country.

Entrants to the Brew us a Flavour competition will be invited to choose the aroma, taste, colour and alcoholic content of their beer.

Entry forms will be available in hundreds of Greene King pubs from today and throughout the whole of July.

A panel of experts will judge the competition and the winner will be invited to the Greene King brewery to work with the brewers and witness the brewing process.

The competition was launched at the Wheatsheaf pub, Fulham, by rugby star Lawrence Dallaglio. He has recently been involved with Greene King in the creation of a new beer - Dallaglio's Heroes.

The rugby star said: "It was fantastic to be involved in the creation of my very own beer and it is a real thrill to be able to walk into a local pub and order a pint of Dallaglio's Heroes at the bar. 'Brew us a Flavour' is a great opportunity for the nation's would be brewers and I wish them luck!"

Greene King head brewer John Bexon said: "The nation is full of beer drinkers with strong views on the flavour and taste of beer and what constitutes a great pint.

"What they might not be so familiar with are the ingredients and brewing process. This is the chance for a lucky winner to learn about what's involved as well as to see their name on bars throughout the country.

"The names of our beers vary massively in origin, from Abbot Ale with its monastic roots, Old Speckled Hen with its MG car connection, Flankers Tackle with its rugby reference, to Bonkers Conkers with its Autumnal allusion. Other than rude suggestions we are open to any ideas!"
