Makro is introducing an oil recycling service, allowing pubs to dispose of waste cooking oil responsibly.

As part of its Love the Pub promotional campaign, the cash & carry group will accept used cooking oil in its original 5-litre, 10-litrel or 20-litre containers. In return, pubs will be able to collect Makro vouchers to redeem in outlets.

Allard Sjollema, commercial director at Makro, said: "The roll-out of oil recycling means not only are we helping our stores and customers' businesses demonstrate their green credentials, we're also rewarding them for this too.

"We'll be giving our customers 10p for every litre of used vegetable oil that is returned to the store, and we are confident that this will make quite a difference, especially in today's climate where every penny counts.

"The used oil recycling scheme is part of Makro's ongoing commitment to the environment. We're working on a number of green ideas so all the waste oil collected in store is put to good use."

The next phase of Makro's Love the Pub campaign launches on July 1, with bespoke offers on food and drink. To benefit, pubs should speak to their Makro manager or visit www.makrolovethe pub.co.uk.
