SIBA's Technical Services has reported early success with 60 installation or maintenance jobs carried out since its launch in March.

That number is set to rise with a survey revealing over 40% of its members are likely to start using the service, which offers members a more tailored dispense service dedicated to cask ale quality.

SIBA Technical Services carries out the work — through InnServe — as requested by the SIBA brewer and then invoices them for the job.

"As most of our brewers supply on average several hundred pubs, the widespread adoption of this service should result in improved dispense of local beers in thousands of pubs," said Nick Stafford, managing director of SIBA Direct Delivery Scheme.

"At a time when consumers are increasingly looking for locally-produced, quality beers in their local pub, this can only be a benefit for brewers and licensees."

Case study

Jane Marsden and Bernie Whiten have benefited from the service at the Retreat in Reading.

"We knew we were losing beer through the old equipment as it wasn't pouring properly and in a pub like ours, where quality beer is everything, that was bad news," said Marsden.

"We tried for several years to get our dispense equipment maintained, but no brewer or distributor was prepared to take on the task, because we wanted to serve an ever-changing range of ales, rather than the products of one brewery.

"It's good that SIBA have put their hands up to supply not only the beer, but the means of dispensing it to a high standard in pubs. It shows customer focus."
