An award winning pub is celebrating the 30th anniversary of a charity walk that has raised £450,000 for good causes.
More than 300 people are expected to take part in the Nightingale's annual 20-mile trek from Walton in Surrey to Putney in South West London on May 23. It is hoped the funds raised will push the total above the £500,000 barrier.
The achievement would cap a memorable year for the pub, in Balham, South London, after it scooped the Community Pub of the Year at this year's Publican Awards.
Keris de Villiers who runs the Nightingale with husband Lee said: "Some virgin walkers join us for a burger and a free pint, and a quiet corner to rub their aching feet, while our die-hard veteran walkers can party the night away."
Walkers are invited to raise money for a charity of their choice. In recent years the walk has supported Trinity Hospice and learning disability charity Mencap.
"So many different charities benefit from our walk and it is fantastic to be part of something so special," added Keris. "This year we are hoping for bigger and better, the bigger the occasion, the more we can give to our charities."
